The high cost of prescription drugs in the UK means many people may struggle to get the help they need to maintain their erection, researchers reported today.
The study, conducted at the University of Manchester, analysed data from 3,879 men aged between 18 and 65, of different socioeconomic backgrounds, from the National Health Service, the Institute for Health and Clinicalrefunction in England and the Department of Health, and from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.
Men were randomly selected from the online database for the study, with each group consisting of a combination of men who had a total of 1,849 prescription drugs, with men in the general public and men who had a prescription from an NHS prescription service.
The men were asked to complete a short online questionnaire with their most common prescribed drug, taking the lowest price as recommended by the pharmacist. The men were then asked to rate their ability to get and maintain an erection, and whether they felt that it was worth it for them.
The study found that nearly half of men who took one of the drugs had no erection problems and half of those who took the cheapest drug had no erection problems.
Overall, men who took the cheapest drug were less likely to have an erection problem.
The researchers also found that men who used the cheapest drug were more likely to have an erection problem than those who did not.
They said: “This is the first study to investigate whether the drug prices are different between men who took the cheapest drug and those who did not.”
Men who took the cheapest drug had a 20% lower average cost for the same drug, and a 14% lower average cost for the same drug when compared with those who did not.
Overall, the lowest cost men in the group who took the cheapest drug were 20% less likely to have an erection problem than those who took the cheapest drug.
“This could be because the drug prices are different between men who take a generic and those who take a brand-name drug,” the researchers explained.
The study looked at a sample of 1,849 men who took an NHS prescription drug, for example, Viagra, and compared the cost of the drug with a private prescription service in the following terms:

A higher cost was defined as more than 10% less expensive than the generic Viagra. This is a huge problem for men in the UK. It is estimated that over 80% of men in the UK are living with erectile dysfunction. The problem is that men are living with this problem.
